![]() These visits, targeted specifically for students of these schools, includes both educational sessions and entertainment by the visiting performers. At that time there was very little traffic and gas was cheap.10/07 Coming to The Honaunau area Annual Maui Steel Guitar Festival Maui HI April19-21 Featured performers will also conduct on-site school visits to various Maui schools to educate and and inform Maui's youth about the Hawaiian steel guitar. Most every other day we drove north of Kailua. I stayed in Honaunau my first visit, which was pre-TA, pre-internet, and was sorely disappointed in the beach nearby, especially in winter. Neither is the beach near Place of Refuge. ![]() Every so often I'd get a tentative reservation with "how far a walk to the beach" and I would sigh, write back about beaches in Hilo, and essentially talk them out of staying with us because clearly they had no clue that Hilo was not the Kohala coast. I used to have a small rental in Hilo, and most guests knew why they were coming. People should do independent research on a district before committing to a reservation. They do not admit the swimming is nothing like what you'll find in South Kohala. They do not discuss the traffic in the area. Same thing with rentals on the east side the websites rarely make it clear that Paradise Ala Kai oceanfront in HPP or places in Kapoho are not next door to Akaka Falls, Hilo, or VNP. But visitors may or may not feel like the whole Kona Coast is in easy reach from coffee country, and may not understand. Hapuna is listed on this site as things to do on the Kona Coast. This is common with vacation rentals in non-beachy areas, to talk up what they have, and yes, first time visitors can be disappointed not to find a Hapuna within a short drive. Quite a few solicited posts do that last part and not much more, sometimes nothing more. In other words, it shouldn't draw on the commercial brochure /ad / website for ideas on what to say. My main issue is that a post I want to read should reach into the visitor's personal experience and not read like a generic compilation of the "good things about our place" that every lodgings puts together. The practice will weight the overall reviews to the favorable side, which may or may not reflect the ratio of happy guests. Susan (hostess) is a nice lady who found the TA system bewildering, haven't talked to her since February. So, yes, some or all of the one post posters were solicited, but they were posts by actual guests who remain in touch. This again from the PM, the hosts sell coffee and they have former guests who still order coffee this was an example of how someone who stayed awhile ago wrote to them to order coffee and they mentioned that some people who had not actually stayed with them had disparaged their location at TA, and thought it would be cool if an actual guest wrote up the experience, so they put it out there to some former guests, would they like to do this? Not for remuneration. Fair enough, I guess it is kind of tough to get TA posters only to come as guests. They did not think it was fair that one post guests were not treated well. Yes, the owners asked former guests if they wanted to write something up, especially after they got dinged by some comments that were general to the area south of Kailua-Kona. Have no desire to become a spokesperson, here, but I did get some info back last February, which I just went back and found in my old PM's.
